The original music was composed around 1914/1916 and each movement is named after a planet of the solar system. I was drawn to Jupiter - the bringer of Jollity (joy/cheerfulness) at a time when I wanted to express and conjure a feeling of joy in my life. The crumhorn of the Renaissance period of western music history was not a solo instrument but an ensemble one. These wind-cap double-reed aerophones with a homogeneous timbre were meant to be played together as an ensemble (consort) to perform polyphonic music. With revival of interest in early music, crumhorns have been manufactured since the 1950s. Due to their limited range, music for crumhorns is usually played by a group of instruments of different sizes and hence at different pitches. Such a group is known as a consort of crumhorns.
